“How can I love what I know I am going to lose?”
Ciao is Italian for both hello and goodbye. It is a quick, informal way of greeting one another. My time in Italy was shaped by this word, as I always knew that every meeting would eventually turn into goodbye. Knowing this, how could I make sure that everything, everywhere mattered all the time?
Ciao consists of approximately 50 clay prints and 25 sounds, taken and recorded from all over Italy. Together they form an installation that captures Italy and my experience through my perception.
The Ciao Drawings (2022) are another form of collecting and remembering these pieces of reality, and fragments of time. The chalk on book paper drawings form a different perspective on some of my travels through Italy.
