Sound Works (2020-2022)

“I find it very important to listen to our surroundings and the soundscapes around us, because they can tell us so much about space and time.”

Hearing and most importantly, listening, was a major part of my work when I was still looking for the meaning of my work. I find it very important to listen to our surroundings and the soundscapes around us, because they can tell us so much about space and time. With these sound works I took my first steps in my ongoing research on time.

Who could have ever thought that it would be illegal to party? And that the city centre would be so quiet, you could hear all the sounds from a student’s window? In Corona Party | Students Room (2021) I captured two soundscapes from this very specific time in the pandemic, and pressed them on 7” vinyl.

Body Sounds (2020) is a collection of sounds made by my body. It has become my 19 year old body trapped inside a 7” picture disc, a mere memory of my physical form.

The “Manifestatie Week” (Manifestation Week), is a week in which me and my classmates work, experiment and present. During this specific week I did three performances, exploring the center hall of the academy in sound. These performances are pressed on clear 7” vinyl.
